We consume far too many animal products, processed and refined foods, saturated fats, and empty calories. Industries that profit from both our ignorance and our misfortune spoon-feed us confusion and deception.
What you want is to rev up your metabolism so that you are burning fat and calories, not preserving fat and calories.
Not eating meat really keeps me trim....meat, and what's usually served with it, is a big calorie packer.
The obese are eating the worst diet in the country if you define worse as ratio of calories to essential micronutrients. They're just eating empty calories.
