I practice yoga and breathing daily along with all the exercises on the instrument. I'm getting more and more monastic about it, especially when I'm on tour, because I'm making songs that are harder to perform all the time. So I no longer smoke and I drink a lot less on tour.
I need yoga every single day.
During recording I was into yoga hard and I was very sober and clear minded. But when I went to mix I took a break from that.
I was doing a lot of yoga and learning to meditate, and I found that extremely helpful, and still do and hopefully always will.
When I started meditating, even doing yoga, I felt like it was hard to allow myself to develop any other kind of practice [outside of Judaism], like I was somehow being untrue to my heritage, and that was something I had to get over and was probably the greatest revelation to me.
I did quite a bit of running before, but it's getting really cold so I joined a gym. I do a bit of swimming and I'm starting to do yoga again.
I did easy yoga and I found it a bit boring. I'm now doing a more difficult one now and I'm enjoying it a bit more. I occasionally still work out with my trainer Tracy Anderson.
Yoga is the practice of quieting the mind.
A mind free from all disturbances is Yoga.
Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked.
Yoga is the cessation of mind.
Yoga is the cessation of the movements of the mind. Then there is abiding in the Seer's own form.
For those who have an intense urge for Spirit and wisdom, it sits near them, waiting.
Here is, in truth, the whole secret of Yoga, the science of the soul. The active turnings, the strident vibrations, of selfishness, lust and hate are to be stilled by meditation, by letting heart and mind dwell in spiritual life, by lifting up the heart to the strong, silent life above, which rests in the stillness of eternal love, and needs no harsh vibration to convince it of true being.
If you choose to see everything as a miracle, then where you are right now is perfect. There is nowhere to run to; there is nothing else to do except be in this moment and allow what is to be. From that place of radical acceptance, major change can happen. The first step in any transformational experience is acceptance and surrender to the present moment, the way that it is. From that place we have the awareness, humility and power to change what is.
The quality of our breath expresses our inner feelings.
The ultimate goal of yoga is to always observe things accurately, and therefore never act in a way that will make us regret our actions later.
Suffering usually relates to wanting things to be different from the way they are.
That's why it's called a practice. We have to practice a practice if it is to be of value.
Anybody can breathe. Therefore anybody can practice yoga.
Mastery of yoga is really measured by how it influences our day-to-day living, how it enhances our relationships, how it promotes clarity and peace of mind.
I have amethyst geodes by my meditation - yoga room and large rose quartz throughout my back garden.
Thus to act under the guidance coming from above, this is one side of the sadhana, the dynamic side. The other one is the discrimination between the Purusha and the Prakriti. The Purusha will calmly observe, give sanction, choose, but will realise that all this does not belong to him - all these are outside him. This is the static side of the sadhana. These two aspects constitute the basis of Yoga.
The higher Truth is all the time working in us but through the lower power - Aparashakti. It is when we become conscious of the play of this higher Power then only yoga begins.
The desire of your vital being is towards work. And the vital being won't find any interest in yoga so long as you do not have any experience of the higher and fuller life that is in yoga. As long as this experience is not there, the vital being will not find any interest.
