Self-acceptance is my refusal to be in an adversarial relationship to myself.
No amount of self-improvement can make up for any lack of self-acceptance.
Self-acceptance comes from meeting life's challenges vigorously. Don't numb yourself to your trials and difficulties, nor build mental walls to exclude pain from your life. You will find peace not by trying to escape your problems, but by confronting them courageously. You will find peace not in denial, but in victory.
You have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn't worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.
Success is total self-acceptance.
Jealousy is the result of one's lack of self-confidence, self-worth, and self-acceptance.
There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.
Let the world know you as you are, not as you think you should be.
I don't have to be perfect. All I have to do is show up and enjoy the messy, imperfect and beautiful journey of my life.
If a person lacks self- acceptance, he can't live with himself; if he lacks self-criticism, others can't live with him.
Nothing destroys self-worth, self-acceptance and self-love faster than denying what you feel. Without feelings, you would not know where you are in life. Nor would you know what areas you need to work on. Honor your feelings. Allow yourself to feel them.
We must be our own before we can be another's.
You can't get it all right all the time, but you can try your best. If you've done that, all that's left is to accept your shortcomings and have the courage to try to overcome them.
When you do your best you learn to accept yourself
There comes a point when you either embrace who and what you are, or condemn yourself to be miserable all your days. Other people will try to make you miserable; don't help them by doing the job yourself.
The trick is that as long as you know who you are and what makes you happy, it doesn't matter how others see you.
Belonging starts with self-acceptance. Your level of belonging, in fact, can never be greater than your level of self-acceptance, because believing that you're enough is what gives you the courage to be authentic, vulnerable and imperfect. When we don't have that, we shape-shift and turn into chameleons; we hustle for the worthiness we already possess.
Until you are happy with who you are, you will never be happy with what you have.
Once you’ve accepted your flaws, no one can use them against you.
The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself.
If you can accept the flow of life and give in to it, you will be accepting what is real. Only when you accept what is real can you live with it in peace and happiness. The alternative is a struggle that will never end because it is a struggle with the unreal, with a mirage of life instead of life itself.
Generosity is another quality which, like patience, letting go, non-judging, and trust, provides a solid foundation for mindfulness practice. You might experiment with using the cultivation of generosity as a vehicle for deep self-observation and inquiry as well as an exercise in giving. A good place to start is with yourself. See if you can give yourself gifts that may be true blessings, such as self-acceptance, or some time each day with no purpose. Practice feeling deserving enough to accept these gifts without obligation-to simply receive from yourself, and from the universe.
Wanting to be someone else is a waste of who you are
Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
