Opinion in good men is but knowledge in the making.
I would like to believe that most people, regardless of gender, are good and kind. The good men in my stories are the rule. It's the bad men that are the exception and because I tend toward the dark in my fiction, you see more of the exception than the rule.
I live up in the hills and I have dogs, so it is my responsibility to get them out and walk with them and I love being outside and I go on lots of hikes. I think it's good mentally to do that as well as physically.
When you are making a lot of money people forget you are trying to be creative and they picture you laughing all the way to the bank ... especially with an action script, automatically it gets boo-hooed as being worthless. It was very difficult to hear that sort of thing and I lost a good many friends over money issues because they didn't have money or their scripts weren't selling and mine were.
Pride is said to be the last vice the good man gets clear of.
It is infinitely better to have a few good men than many indifferent ones.
I love a good man outside the law, just as much as I hate a bad man inside the law.
A good many of my poems over the years have alluded to or taken on the political. Stevens has a line in one of his essays: "Reality exerts pressure on the imagination." Inevitably what is omnipresent in the culture exerts its pressure on our imaginations to respond to it, even if indirectly. But in this case the backdrop of 9/11, coincident with the breakup of a marriage, the finding of new love, some kind of personal cataclysm... all of those were forces informing the poems in some way.
In every good man a God doth dwell.
Money is power, money is force, money will do good as harm. In the hands of good men and women it could accomplish, and it has accomplished, good.

Cynicism and defensiveness are two things constantly levelled at me. Look, I've got time for people, I'm good mannered. I usually find that when you're down, nobody has a bloody minute for you. If I was a nobody, you wouldn't even talk to me. People, in general, don't like you being upfront and civil. They hate you for it. They label you a cynic 'cos you're reasonable.
Surely the experience of all good men confirms the proposition that without a due measure of private devotions the soul will grow lean.
As a writer and director, I want to know what is behind the good manners and soft voice. Who is inside the silhouette?
Be of good hope in the face of death. Believe in this one truth for certain, that no evil can befall a good man either in life or death, and that his fate is not a matter of indifference to the gods.
What is a good man? A teacher of a bad man. What is a bad man? A good man's charge?
Whether on the ground of materialism, or of intellect, or of spirituality, the compensation that is given by the Lord to every one impartially is exactly the same. Therefore we must not think that we are the saviours of the world. We can teach the world, a good many things, and we can learn a good many things from it too. We can teach the world only what it is waiting for.
A man is original when he speaks the truth that has always been known to all good men.
In the midst of this enormous economic crisis, I think Canada has shown itself to be a pretty good manager of the financial system and the economy in ways that we always - haven't always been here in the United States.
Good manners require space and time.
That bad manners are so prevalent in the world is the fault of good manners.
When two good men contend about principles, both are always right.
Who is a good man? He who keeps the decrees of the fathers, and both human and divine laws. [Lat., Vir bonus est quis? Qui consulta patrum, qui leges juraque servat.]
Until every good man is brave, we must expect to find many good women timid--too timid even to believe in the correctness of their own best promptings, when these would place them in a minority.
All that needs to be done for evil to prevail is good men doing nothing.
